Welcome to Surf Talk! Ask any European surfer what their favourite time of year is, and chances are it will be September. The water is still pretty much as warm as it gets, and with land temperatures closer to that of the sea, the relentless summer onshores give way to Autumn offshores, at least some of the time.

Throw the odd decaying hurricane into the mid-Atlantic mixer and you have the conditions set right for the Perfect Storm, to a surfers eye anyway. With enough daylight available to make pre-work dawnies and post-work evening glass off’s a possibility, Autumn offers enough to restart the stoke of even the most jaded summer surfer.

We’ve not been entirely idle at SurfTalk during the summer holidays, so have a host of quality features lined up for you, starting next week with a profile and some stunning images from Ireland based surf photographer, Gary McCall.
